BMW (Bayerische Motoren Werke AG) has been in the business of manufacturing luxury vehicles for more than 100 years now. Over more than a century, they have manufactured some of the most well-known vehicles on the streets. They are also the parent company of the well-known Rolls-Royce Motor Cars.
You’ll find a few different BMW models at about any car rental company that you visit. Among the many different models available, the BMW X3 line is one of the most popular. It’s a high-quality automobile with a lot to offer the renter.
A Brief Introduction
The BMW X3 has been manufactured since early 2003.The original design was based on the BMW 3 series model of vehicles. The X3 is labeled as a luxury crossover SUV. This means it comes with the best of both worlds. It is often labeled as a sports activity vehicle instead of an SUV.
The first generation of X3 BMWs was manufactured between the years of 2003 and 2010. It was this particular generation that was based heavily on the earlier 3 series design. Magna Steyr from Monaco helped design the vehicles and has since worked with BMW on all X3 models. The first X3 was premiered during the month of September 2003.
There were some changes to the vehicle following the 2005 production year. The front end of the car was revised as well as the rear bumper, tail lights, and some portions of the interior. The 2007 model received an alternative engine in the United States as well.
The second generation began production in 2010 and continues to this day. The first model in this generation was revealed at the Paris Motor Show. This generation was referred to as the F25 internally. It was marked by a move in production from Austria to the US factor in South Carolina.
Should You Rent It?
If you’re considering renting this vehicle, then you are probably interested in what others have to say. Is it worth the money or you should you invest in a different vehicle? You’ll be happy to learn that this is a great vehicle for those of you who love luxury SUV crossovers. The X3 series is one of the top rated luxury crossovers in the world.
The X3 series received high marks in safety in Europe in all areas except for pedestrian safety. It received a 4 out of 5-star rating for all other areas, but only 1 out of 5 stars for pedestrians safety. Keep in mind, though, SUVs rarely receive decent scores for pedestrian safety.
Ideally, you will want to rent a second generation model. The newer the model the better the features of the vehicle will be. Second generation models come equipped with some accessories that needed to be ordered separately for older models.
The third generation of X3 crossovers is set to begin production late in 2017. So you can expect even better options just around the corner. Until then, you can’t go wrong renting a BMW X3.
